World Arthritis day celebrated on October 12 every year to spread awareness of the existence and impact of the disease arthritis. It was established by Arthritis and Rheumatism International (ARI) in the year 1996.
What is Arthritis?
Arthritis is the swelling and tenderness of one or more joints. It can cause pain and inflammation. There are more than 100 different types of arthritis, with different causes and treatment methods. Some of them are Osteoarthritis, Ankylosing spondylitis, Juvenile arthritis, Gout, Psoriatic arthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis.
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of arthritis. Gout, fibromyalgia, and rheumatoid arthritis are other common rheumatic conditions.
Arthritis affects more than 180 million people in India. This is higher than other common diseases like diabetes.
