World Teachers' Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is an international day held annually on 5 October to celebrate all teachers around the globe.
Why October 5
It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
World Teachers’ Day has been celebrated since 1994.
2021 Teacher's Day Theme
The theme for this year is “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”.
The focus will be on the support teachers need to fully contribute to the recovery process during the COVID-19 crisis.
According to Statistical Year Book India 2017, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, there are around 86, 91, 922 teachers in the country.
Many countries celebrate their Teachers' Day on 5 October in conjunction with World Teachers' Day. In India, September 5 is celebrated as National Teachers' Day.
