The National Energy Conservation Day is observed in India on December 14. The day is celebrated under the aegis of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power.
The National Energy Conservation Day aims to make people aware of global warming and climate change and to promote efforts towards saving our valuable energy resources. Mass awareness on the importance of energy conservation is the goal of National Energy Conservation Day. This year the Ministry of Power is celebrating Energy Conservation Week from 8 to 14 December 2021 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)
The Government of India set up Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). on 1st March 2002 under the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. The mission of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency is to assist in developing policies and strategies with a thrust on self-regulation and market pri nciples, within the overall framework of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 with the primary objective of reducing the energy intensity of the Indian economy. Ever since 2005, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency has been organizing National Level Painting Competitions on Energy Conservation for school children. This year, the theme for the competition is ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Energy Efficient India’ and ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Cleaner Planet’.
