World First Aid Day was started by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in 2000. Each year, more than 100 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies around the world organise events and ceremonies on the second Saturday of September to raise public awareness of how first aid can save lives everyday and in situations of crisis.
First aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person with either a minor or serious illness or injury, with care provided to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, or to promote recovery. Knowing basic first aid is an invaluable skill that everyone should know.
