Zero discrimination day is celebrated globally on 1st of March every year so that everyone lives life with dignity regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, skin colour, height, weight, etc. The symbol of zero discrimination day is the butterfly. Firstly on 1st march 2014, the UN celebrated this day and was launched by UNAIDS Executive Director MICHAEL SIDIBE on 27th February of that year with a major event in Beijing.
On Zero Discrimination Day this year, under the theme “Save lives: Decriminalise”, UNAIDS is highlighting how the decriminalisation of key populations and people living with HIV saves lives and helps advance the end of the AIDS pandemic.
